Just off the busy A6 near Whaley Bridge, down a ginnel, at the back of a row of terraced houses, the Bridgemont Studio can be found in a  tranquil setting next to the Peak Forest Canal. Local artist and owner Derek Marshall established the studio in the converted stables some thirty years ago.

Well known in the Peak District, Derek has lived in the area for over thirty years. He learned to paint in Australia at Perth Art College when he was in his twenties and was fortunate enough to get private tuition from a highly respected local artist. After two successful exhibitions down under, he returned to his native England and put on a display at a gallery in Disley, followed by an exhibition in Germany. Since then Derek has produced many local landscapes and scenes in oil. Derek says that he gets his inspiration from his second love, walking, and he can regularly be seen walking in the hills and dales of the Peak - gaining inspiration for his next painting. In between painting local scenery, and works that have come purely from his own imagination, Derek has fulfilled many commissions, mainly from local residents, though several have come from further afield.

Working alongside Derek, when she can is his wife Elaine, whose specialty is painting flowers and still life portraits, she has recently extended her repertoire to include pet paintings. Elaine works almost exclusively on a commission basis, please go to Elaine's page to view some examples.

Derek has been asked many times to paint copies of works of art by the great impressionists, never one to shirk from a challenge he has carefully scrutinized the styles and composition of these masters, producing fantastic results which cam be viewed on his page.

Derek continues to undertake commissions and will create a beautiful painting of your property in a spectacular landscape.

Bridgemont Studio is a working studio, not a gallery! Therefore it is advisable to give some notice of your visit. Prices for original oil paintings range from £60 to £400, and prints from £10.
